Even A Little Pop of Red is Powerful

Happy Friday!

Today I have for you another mixed media piece featuring a bit of red.  This project has only a few touches of red, but boy does it pop...that is the power of red.  Even a little grabs the limelight.

This was done using a large piece of corrugated.  I added a couple smaller pieces as well.  You can easily use a sturdy canvas art board for the base of this as well.
I added a background using a napkin from my stash and kept embellishing from there.
I added more corrugated that I had previously prepared with gesso.  I then added a bit of green ink to pull from the green in the napkin.
I also added a few pieces of chipboard that I painted out with a pale pink.
Next, came that pop of red with beautiful red rhinestone cupchain.

Next, I used a couple pieces of fabric scraps to which I added a bit of gesso.  I colorized the gesso by mixing in a bit of glittery white paint just for some added sparkle.  When the light hits it just right you catch that glimmer...so pretty
Next, I added DIY flowers made from Tyvek envelopes.  This is done by cutting different sized circles from the Tyvek (see the link below), inking them, then "burning" them with a heat gun just until they melt a bit and curl up creating a petal of sorts.  Hot glue all circles together and then add a gem, bead or button to the center for the finishing touch.
I also added a bit of detail with white dots and white splatter.
Feel free to pin the photos to your Pinterest pages.

Hope you enjoyed my touch of red project today.
Have a great weekend!

Handy Tip for Artists, Recyclers and Neat Freaks! I have a follow-up to the Citra-Sol method for creating fabulous background pages and collages.   I bought a big bag of navel oranges and realized I had the ingredients to make my own solvent!   Simply take a clean glass jar, peel the rind from the oranges and place all the rind/peels, without the pulp (tangerines, oranges, navels) into the jar.   Pour enough vinegar over the peels to cover them.    Allow the jar to sit for a week or two and VOILA!     You have made your own solvent for literally pennies.    You will notice the liquid getting a bit thicker than the plain vinegar and it does not smell bad!!! I now have a  HUGE jar on the window sill!       Be careful and only use this after testing on a safe spot.
